Summary:

The PBM world is crowded. Every broker has heard the same promises. Every employer has been shown the same spreadsheets. And yet, plan costs keep climbing, members feel disconnected from their care, and many employers still don’t understand what’s actually driving their pharmacy spend.

MaxCare was built to change that.

If you’ve been in this industry long enough, you’ve probably had that moment. A member at the counter. A spouse on the phone. A renewal meeting where the numbers just don’t work. You know what it feels like when someone can’t get the medication they need, or when an employer is staring at a pharmacy spend that could force hard decisions about benefits, jobs, or both.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief: transparency, education, and real local connection lead to better outcomes. It’s the kind of approach that feels more like a hometown PBM than a corporate one—built around the people behind the claims and the employers trying to take care of them.

This is where you come in.

What your Days will Actually Look Like

MaxCare is entering a rebrand and rebuild phase, and this role sits right in the middle of it.
You’ll be helping shape how the story is told in a market dominated by legacy PBM models,
working closely with brokers, consultants, and employer groups who are ready for a different
approach. This is a role for someone who already knows the PBM ecosystem, understands selffunded employer dynamics, and wants to represent a transparent model they can stand behind.

This isn’t a role where you start from zero. The expectation is that you walk in with broker relationships and know how to turn them into opportunities. You’ll be mapping targeted
territories, reviewing JDA 5500 data, and identifying employer groups where MaxCare’s model is a strong fit. You’ll warm up conversations virtually, then line up strategic in-person meetings with producers and partners across your region. This isn’t a road warrior role, but it does require thoughtful travel and purposeful face time.

You’ll be calling on senior-level producers, aggregator partners, and financial or HR leaders at self-funded employers. Much of the motion will be broker-driven—working closely with the good ones, helping educate the ones who need it, and strategically navigating around the ones who slow deals down or create unnecessary friction. The sweet spot is employers in the 250 to 2,500-life range, with the ability to scale up to about 5,000 lives when the opportunity is right.

You’ll run a steady cadence of opportunities, typically three to five RFPs per quarter in the first year, collaborating with leadership and marketing to shape the right narrative and pricing approach. This is full-cycle selling—prospecting, territory planning, pricing, presentations, proposal reviews, and pipeline strategy. Just as important, you’ll be making disciplined decisions about where MaxCare fits and where it doesn’t, protecting your time and focusing on opportunities that align with the model.

This is a relationship-driven sales motion. The job isn’t to win every opportunity. It’s to pursue the right ones, protect your time, and bring in new lives through brokers and partners who understand the value of a transparent PBM model.

In year one, the expectation is to bring in approximately 10,000 lives, driven by disciplined prospecting, strong existing relationships, and consistent execution across your territory.

This Role is a Great Fit If...

You’ve spent at least five years in the PBM world and already have trusted relationships with the right brokers, consultants, or aggregator partners. You understand the nuances of ERISA, self-funded employer plans, and the psychological barriers clients feel when considering a PBM switch. You know how to navigate a crowded field of competitors without defaulting to price alone.

You’re comfortable running full-cycle sales, from early prospecting through proposal and close, and you’ve done it in an environment where relationship capital matters more than a polished spreadsheet. You know which brokers move the market forward, which ones need education, and which ones are best left alone. You bring examples of how you’ve won business in the 250 to 5,000-life market, not just how many deals you’ve touched.

Most importantly, you’re ready to represent a transparent PBM model. You want to move away
from spread pricing and misaligned incentives and toward something you can explain to a
broker, an employer, or a member with confidence.

Location
This is a remote role with a focus on the Midwest and Mountain West. The preference is for someone based in the Mountain or Central time zones, but the right fit matters more than a specific zip code.
Compensation

The base compensation is competitive and aligned w/market rates based on experience and
prior performance. On target earnings is tied directly to results based on number of lives and claim count.

Benefits

MaxCare offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both your health and your long-term financial wellbeing, along with the flexibility of a remote work environment and the backing of a pharmacy-owned organization focused on sustainable growth.
